The New Adventures of Charlie Chan starring J. Carrol Naish The New Adventures of Charlie Chan was a syndicated, thirty-minute, black-and-white television series produced in 1957. There were thirty-nine episodes made during the run of the series with well-known American character actor J. Carrol Naish starring as Charlie Chan and the young, relatively inexperienced James Hong portraying Number One Son Barry. (Where the name Barry came from and why he was not named Lee as in the film series is anyone’s guess.) The series was a joint venture of American producer Leon Fromkess’s Television Programs of America (TPA) and English film mogul Sir Lew Grade’s Incorporated Television
